The 13th annual V Foundation Wine Celebration took place August 5-6 in the Napa Valley and raised more than $4 million for cancer research, including $1 million specifically for brain tumor research through a partnership with Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. The event is a signature fund-raiser for The V Foundation, started by legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano.
The weekend of Wine Celebration events culminated with the Gala Dinner and Live Auction at Nickel & Nickel Winery. As guests enjoyed fabulous wine and an elaborate dinner, The V Foundation Chairman Bob Lloyd and Duke basketball head coach Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski livened up the crowd and implored the guests to give generously. This year’s Fund A Need benefited brain tumor research. Scott Hamilton, world champion figure skater and brain tumor survivor, gave a touching speech, via video, about the need for more research. Over $1 million was raised specifically for brain tumor research with the help of a $500,000 matching pledge from Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.
Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure is grateful to Larry Probst, in his dual role as a board member of Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure and The V Foundation, for spotlighting brain tumor research in this year's Fund A Need program. Thanks also to Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure board members Stacey Case, Nancy Pfund and Doug Holladay for attending the Wine Celebration events. Their enthusiasm sparked a flurry of bidding that made the Fund A Need such a success.
In the weeks ahead, look for more updates on the research funding made possible by Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure's partnership with The V Foundation.
